About the Book
This book Impressions of the Heysen Trail is the artistic creation of Margrit Warmer who, with a group of fellow hikers, walked the entire 1200 km length of South Australia’s iconic Heysen Trail. Starting at Cape Jervis, the book sets out the various sections of The Heysen Trail that can be walked from end-to-end, all the way through to Parachilna Gorge, in the Flinders Ranges. Margrit Warmer’s beautiful sketches and paintings included in this book are based on her photographs taken along the way, then produced using watercolour, pen, ink, and pencil. Margrit Warmer’s Impressions of the Heysen Trail is a tribute to nature, as she captures in her artwork the breathtaking scenes, charming walking trails, and the diverse and spectacular panoramas of the Heysen Trail. Impressions of the Heysen Trail is an inspirational journey through art, nature, and friendships.
Margrit Warmer is a natural creative and self-taught artist. She was born in Switzerland and moved to South Australia over 40 years ago. After an interesting career in hospitality spanning many years and continents, in the early nineties Margrit studied various modalities to become a Holistic Therapist. By the turn of the millennium, Margrit was getting into bushwalking. She first tackled Morialta Falls in Adelaide’s foothills. Soon after she was invited by South Australian folk singer and legend Dave Clark to join a group walking tour of the Himalaya’s Valley of Flowers in India. Margrit’s love for bushwalking was thus launched. Some of the participants she’d walked with in India invited her to join the Retire Active SA Bushwalking Group, and since then she has embarked on regular weekly walks. Margrit has also walked The Camino Trail from France through Spain; The Coast to Coast across England; more recently the Larapinta Trail west of Alice Springs, and she even joined a fundraising trek to Mt Everest Base Camp through Daw Park Hospice. In 2019 her walking group began tackling the 1200 kilometre Heysen Trail. In 2022 Margrit registered as the 1000th person to complete the Heysen Trail. This is Margrit’s debut book showcasing her beautiful illustrations documenting each section of the Heysen Trail.
